Pain killers that are stronger than Extra strength tylenol, and contain medically regulated drugs must be purchased through prescription. Morphine, for example, is highly addictive, and is therefore regulated through the rule that it can only be purchased with perscription.
Viagra and similar drugs were originally developed to treat angina- a heart condition in which the blood vessels around the heart constrict, killing the heart muscle. The side effect of the drug is sexual, so that became the "main focus" of the drug. What the drug actually does is expand the blood vessels in your body, dropping your blood pressure. If too many are taken, too much is taken per dose or it is taken improperly, it can be fatal.

I know I know I am supposed to get a prescription, but I am 33 and I have been suffering with ED for about a year and I would go to the doctor but I do not have insurance, and not to mention the wait and embarrassment.
I realized that I can buy viagra without a prescription online from an overseas pharmacy. But I fear that once it goes through customs they will check my name and see if I have a prescription and then the FBI will investigate me for importing a few viagra pills and next thing I know a swat team is outside my house getting ready to arrest me and throw me in jail.
How likely is that going to happen?
It won't be the FBI at your door, it will be a Customs Agent or an investigator from the DEA.
Seriously, about the most that will happen is the pills will be seized by Customs and you will be out a few bucks.
Your biggest problem will be if you actually take these drugs. That overseas pharmacy is not controlled by U.S. drug laws and you have no way of knowing just what they put in those pills. Fraud is rampant on the internet for these kind of drugs.

I was about to hit the 'confirm' order on a website and order some Xanax (online without a prescription) when a voice in my head told me to check Custom's website concerning the legality of this. Turns out, it's a federal offense to import. Probably a state offense also. Thank god I knew this before the FBI came 'a knocking.
Notwithstanding the complete lack of wisdom demonstrated by the FDA and congress, I am curious if small time persons, such as whom I almost was, ever actually get prosecuted for this? I know its a crime, do DA's and AAG's actually file for 30 viagra, Zoloft, Xanax, or whatever?
And, to all the FBI/Customs/etc. people reading this. I assure you that I DO NOT have any pending orders with foreign doctors and/or pharmacies. This is just an intellectual musing.

I am simply asking whether people actually get prosecuted for this. No, I do not have an order pending. As I previously stated, I am simply curious whether people who do not have my research skills or the forethought to stop themselves are likely to face charges.
Seems like you kinda answered your own question. I don't think that you can get in trouble for reordering meds online through a legit pharmacy, but it's a good thing that you did your homework before.
